“By most external standards, I would be considered a success… and slender. But until I met Dee Wolk one of the first thoughts that popped in to my mind upon awakening had nothing to do with my career or my family, but was … “oh boy, what can I eat today?” Food consumed me (rather than the other way around). I fed my emotional hunger and ate for the joy of it, as a reward for a hard day’s work and a “treat” for the times I felt down. I ate when I wasn’t hungry. I ate when I was celebrating. I ate when I was discouraged. I finished everything on my plate, and sometimes even my neighbor’s plate.

I never got fat as I constantly dieted. I starved and then gorged. I could gain seven pounds in a week, and then starve it away in 4 days. The pattern controlled me. Dee taught me to listen to my body’s signals, and eat when physically, not emotionally hungry. I never felt deprived… I could still eat ice cream and bagels, or whatever I wanted, but just until my own body registered satisfaction. This was somewhat of a surprise to me because, despite having devoted my life to medicine, I had never learned to listen to my own body’s physical signals.

Dee’s plan isn’t a diet; it’s a change in lifestyle. It's easy to do. Her advice is practical and down-to-earth, but with just a touch of magic from her personality that makes the program as fun as it is successful.”
